Sometimes when there is nothing to say, it is best to say nothing at all.
What I have come to appreciate is relationships where the other recognizes just their presence is enough. When a difficult quiet time is not filled with unthoughtful thoughts or empty words.
Some seasons are tough, hearts will ache but in our faith the knowledge of knowing our sovereign Lord reigns over the hard times as well as the good times will give us comfort. It does not take us away from the heartache, but it will deliver us through it.
What a blessing are the friends who come along beside us and offer their best in these times – their silent presence, listening ear and understanding the only thing the circumstance needs is time with our Comforter, our Protector, our Provider; in those moments our Heavenly Father meets us where we are at and pours out His love to our lack of understanding. He protects our fragile thoughts and provides us strength to rise up. He does not leave us in those tender moments, nor does our faithful friend.
